Theo Jansen is one of my favorite artists because his art is both elegant and complicated, and I'm very into science-based or mathematical art. Theo Jansen makes walking beasts out of pipes, springs, and whatnot - just beautiful to watch.
I appreciate that his art requires a high degree of technical difficulty and a deep understanding of physics. Each Beest starts out as a computer generated model, which goes through many iterations until it is optimized for walking (or at least that's how I understand his process), and then the computer model gets transfered to reality, where it walks on the beaches of Holland.
